Coating Superintendent

Reports to Manager Coating & Galvanizing

Location: Dubai

JOB OBJECTIVE: Coating Superintendent will be an integral part of the production team in the Department. His duties will be to liaise with EPC division for all coating related EPC Enquiries, Planning and Execution.

. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

• Develop/Amend department procedures/ work instructions to introduce EPC related activities while delivering a quality, cost-effective service to customers.

• Follow and comply to Information Security Rules and data security measures in order to protect the company information / intellectual properties.

Budget & Financial:

• Assist Department Manager to recommend and prepare Department EPC budget by preparing analysis and data related to specific elements as directed.

• Analyse each project requirements and prepare department resource and equipment estimates.

• Assist Department Manager to monitor the departments financial performance on the EPC activities.

Day- to-day operations:

• Perform duties as instructed by Department head.

• Liaise with EPC division to understand project specification, pre-requisites and provide necessary support / feedback for bidding/tendering.

• Review Client specification and carry out necessary gap analysis and provide feedback to EPC division.

• Carry out site visit/ Offshore visit to identify the scope /requirements and to prepare initial execution plan.

• Carryout corrosion assessment survey and define scope.

• Liaise with Paint manufacturers for defining coating specification.

• Liaise with local authorities where the vessel/ structure will be deployed for defining coating specification.

• Prepare workpack for the scope defined.

• liaise with EPC team to define degradation level and warranty criteria.

• Liaise with EPC division for base line schedule for coating related activities.

• Participate in build methodology discussion, review of EPC projects sequences, assembly plan, ITP, construction procedures to ensure smooth interdisciplinary activities.

• Support commercial to project estimated manhours.

• Prepare Subcon management plan as necessary.

• Participate in high level Client meetings.

• Liaise with other discipline superintendents to review, define and coordinate simop activities.

• Raise Technical queries against deviation and follow up the same with the client.

• Liaise with the Commissioning team for defining and creating ITR

• ITR based completion tracking and handover

• Visit Subcontractor facilities and review procedure and approval.

• Develop/Amend department procedures/ work instructions to introduce EPC related activities while delivering a quality, cost-effective service to customers.

• Estimate abrasive, paint and other consumables as per specification

• Should be conversant with applicable blasting and coating standards.

• Failure and coating imperfection reporting post-delivery of project.

• Carry out failure analysis as and when required.

• Review Warranty claims and liaise with Legal/ EPC division for further actions.

• Attend warranty claims and clarifications from yards interest , if any

• Carry out any change management based on the tender and actual execution.

• Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘international best practice’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.

• Prepare departmental reports on time and accurately to meet company and department requirements, policies and standards.

• Prepare and implement lesson learnt

REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge and experience in an EPC company or shipyard or offshore construction facility as lead in coating section.

• Strong background in blasting and coating standards.

• Experience in corrosion assessment surveys

• Strong background with resolution of technical issues during projects planning and execution phases

• Possess knowledge of MS office and Project Management skills.

• Ability to develop, interpret and follow method statements and procedures, specifications, drawings, and all other discipline related project and engineering documentation

Min.Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent

Training

NACE Corrosion Specialist or Equivalent

• NACE- O-CAT/S-CAT or equivalent.

• OPITO approved offshore & Onshore safety training.

Experience

• More than 15 years working experience in EPC company as lead in Coating section which undertakes New build/Conversion / offshore projects.
