Senior Plant Performance Engineer

Location: Bahrain

REPORTS TO: Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
 

PURPOSE
Provide the necessary engineering support to Company with engineering solutions including; plant performance analysis, identification and implementation of plant performance improvement projects, analysis of plant operating costs (fuel, water, electricity, chemicals), provision of practical technical guidance to the O&M team to optimise strategy with respect to plant performance, provision of day-to-day technical guidance, lead the planning and execution of the annual net dependable capacity test (NDCT/ADCT) including reporting, provision of technical analysis of the PWPA fuel demand model (FDM), and reporting on the same
 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures that work is carried out safely and to the requirements of International Engineering standards and inspection requirements and as per own set QHSE policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and implements the Company’s plant performance monitoring and optimisation strategy
  • Prepares a daily, weekly, monthly plant performance report, as per International best practice, with technical guidance to optimise plant performance and operating costs (fuel, water, electricity, chemicals)
  • Provides day-to-day technical guidance to the Company O&M team, in order to optimise plant performance and to take preventive or corrective actions
  • Identifies , leads and delivers plant performance improvement projects, preparing techno-economic assessments based on PWPA and FDM framework for the same, for submission to the project company/shareholders, and takes the lead in delivering the finished product on-site
  • Analyse the plant performance and efficiency, with respect to the plant fuel demand model (FDM), to take preventive or corrective actions and prepare/ submit the related report(s)
  • Lead the planning and execution of the annual net dependable capacity test (NDCT/ADCT)
  • Works as a member of the Plant O&M team, to make continuous improvements to safety, plant efficiency, plant output and availability.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as and when assigned by CTO.
  • Experience reviewing power plant system design as well as familiar with the ASME and ISO code

 
ACCOUNTABILITY FOR ACTIONS & IMPACTS

  • Accountable for identifying maximum achievable plant output with the lowest plant heat rate within the range of operation identified by the PWPA, FDM and plant technical limits. Accountable for establishing adopted international technical, environmental, and safety standards.
    • Works independently on broad assignments according to general directives policies, Company objective, and programmes.
    • Refers to CTO on major issues. Work accomplishments are subject to general review by the department manager

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree Mechanical or Electrical Engineering;
  • 10 years experience in power generation and water production field or similar, with at least five years working as a plant performance specialist, in the operations and maintenance of power and desalination plants.
  • Practical field experience as an O&M Engineer and O&M/Commissioning test Engineer is required in Conventional Thermal/CCGT power generation plants and/or Reverse Osmosis (RO) desalination plants
  • Experience in MS Office, MS SharePoint, Advanced MS Excel and MS Access, ABB Optimax/PGIM and/or Pl Processbook, Thennoflex and/or GE Gate Cycle is necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Capable of writing complicated technical reports and power point presentations
  • Excellent practical plant troubleshooting skills
