Technical Assistant/Adviser (Oil and Gas Industry)

Overview

As a Technical Assistant/Adviser in the oil and gas industry, you will serve as a technical expert and consultant, providing critical support and guidance to various aspects of operations within the sector. Your role will involve offering specialized knowledge and solutions to complex technical challenges, optimizing processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Your expertise will be instrumental in enhancing operational efficiency, minimizing risks, and contributing to the overall success of oil and gas projects.

Responsibilities

Technical Consultation

Act as a trusted technical adviser, offering guidance and expertise on a wide range of technical issues related to oil and gas exploration, production, refining, and distribution.

Problem Solving

Analyze complex technical problems, identify root causes, and develop innovative solutions to optimize processes, improve performance, and mitigate risks.

Process Optimization: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess existing processes and systems, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.

Regulatory Compliance

Stay abreast of relevant regulations, standards, and best practices in the oil and gas industry, and guide to ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and operational requirements.

Technical Support

Provide hands-on technical support and assistance to field operations, including troubleshooting equipment issues, conducting root cause analyses, and implementing corrective actions.

Project Support

Support the planning, execution, and optimization of oil and gas projects by providing technical expertise, conducting feasibility studies, and evaluating project risks and opportunities.

Training and Development

Develop and deliver technical training programs for personnel at all levels, covering topics such as equipment operation, maintenance procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.

Continuous Improvement

Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, reducing costs, and maximizing resource utilization through the implementation of best practices and innovative technologies.

Risk Management

Identify potential risks and hazards associated with oil and gas operations, assess their impact, and develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel, assets, and the environment.

Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate records of technical data, maintenance activities, project plans, and regulatory compliance efforts, and prepare reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, petroleum engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.
• Extensive experience (5+ years) working in technical roles within the oil and gas industry, with a deep understanding of industry practices, processes, and technologies.
• Proven track record of solving complex technical problems, optimizing processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices related to safety, environmental protection, and operational excellence.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to diverse audiences and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to gather and interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
• Project management experience is a plus, including the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage project timelines and budgets, and deliver results on schedule.

Professional certifications

(e.g., PE, PMP) and specialized training in relevant technical areas are highly desirable.
