Job Description

An offshore wind developer is looking to grow their team to appoint an Engineering Manager for their ScotWind projects.

The role

• The Engineering Manager will take a leading senior role in the Project team, leading all engineering aspects and technical interfaces associated with the development.
• As these projects are at an early stage of development, the successful candidate will shape the setup of the processes, tools, and co-ordination of necessary resources both internal and external.

• Identify the need for specialist internal and external technical support. Manage the technical aspects of procurement of specialist external support, including for example drafting work scopes and undertaking coordinating technical assessment of proposals.
• Be the key interface for the projects with the Engineering and Construction teams.
• Be responsible for site data collection, including metocean, geophysical, geotechnical and wind resource campaigns to support project design.
• Establish a project design basis and manage its validation by ensuring comprehensive and robust data collection and use, resulting in reduced uncertainty of site conditions, minimising project design risk and leading to more cost-effective design and installation solutions and lower likelihood of claims.

• Collaborate effectively with other project team members especially Consenting leads, Supply Chain manager.
• Ensure appropriate engineering governance is put in place and managed, including:
  • Development of a technical risk register
  • Implementation of design decision and change control processes.
  • Effective interface management
  • Value engineering
• Follow and report on new innovations, standards, methodologies, service providers and best practice, with a view to optimisation of the project, be it risk profile, Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE) or ability to successfully meet project milestones and goals.
• Manage budget and schedule effectively for the engineering scope activities undertaken.
• As the project is at an early stage, the successful candidate will be involved in wider project development activities e.g. regulatory matters, stakeholders, industry working groups.

Requirements

• Relevant engineering degree providing a strong technical foundation in understanding interfaces in large EPC(I) projects.
• 10+ years of experience in relevant or similar field of work. (e.g. complex EPC(I) Construction Projects, large infrastructure projects), preferably direct experience in development of offshore wind projects.
• Knowledge of CDM (Construction Design and Management) Regulations, including a demonstrable understanding of health, safety and environmental best practice.
• Demonstrable experience leading, motivating and managing teams of engineers and external consultants.
• Ability and interest to deep-dive into complex technical challenges. But to also able to explain them to a non-technical audience.
• Excellent coordination and co-operation skills; a team player who is willing and able to work with others to solve problems and share knowledge.
• Comfortable flagging problems when they arise and asking for help when needed.
• Ability to be proactive while working independently.
• Culturally aware with a high level of emotional intelligence to work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong written communication and presentation skills in English, strong organisational and time management skills.
• Proven ability to manage ambiguity and shape processes and systems.
• Background from structural engineering or marine transportation and logistics areas.
