Environmental Specialist

Job Description

Job Summary:

As an Environmental Specialist, you’ll manage local and national environmental permits, ensuring compliance with regulations from PROFEPA, SEMARNAT, CONAGUA, and ASEA. Your responsibilities include supporting environmental issues, maintaining communication with authorities, and participating in audits and inspections. You’ll also play a key role in monitoring environmental KPIs, executing impact assessments, and leading yearly environmental objectives. Additionally, you’ll develop and implement conservation plans, manage hazardous waste notifications, and support the HSEQ Management System according to ISO standards. Collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders will be essential to drive environmental goals and ensure compliance with industry standards.
 
Main Responsibilities:
 

  • Responsible for the integral management of local and national permits that are required to be in compliance with environmental regulations applicable to the BU operations (PROFEPA, SEMARNAT, CONAGUA, ASEA, etc.).
  • Follow up of the requirements of the Government authorities and applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Support the different areas in environmental issues and permit management.
  • Develop a strong relationship with local and national authorities and independently manage the communications.
  • Maintain relationship with the different areas of the company and keep them updated about requirements.
  • Participate in field/offices audits and inspections.
  • Support the continuous improvement of the HSEQ Management System according to corporate directives and ISO 45.001 and ISO 14.001 standards.
  • Collaborate in the execution of environmental impact assessments of all locations/assets operated and non-operated, Assessing the existing or potential environmental impact of land use projects on air, water, and land. Delivering and action Plan related to mitigate the environmental impacts.
  • Follow up on the corporate environmental requirements
  • Definition and monitoring of Environmental KPI´s (KEPI)
  • Annual Plan to conduct environmental campaigns.
  • Identification of resources to guarantee the compliance with the Environmental Management System.
  • Lead and supervise the execution of yearly environmental objectives
  • Create the mechanism to communicate the Environmental Strategy to all employees, contractors, stakeholders, partners, communities.
  • Collect and analysis of environmental data of all assets in the Business Unit: GHG emissions, Water and electricity consumption, waste management.
  • Ensure and supervise the environmental data report annually on the database SoFi for all operated and non-operated assets.
  • Improving environmental conservation management, including recycling, public health, and water and air pollution.
  • Identify critical research areas such as renewable energy, climate change and food and water security.
  • Consult and identify environmental best practices to be implemented in the BU.
  • Perform the Environmental assessment of the non/operated assets.
  • Plan of Environmental training to employees.
  • Be involved in the development of specific spill contingency plans and methods for loading and transporting waste.
  • Prepare hazardous waste manifests and land disposal restriction notifications.
  • Develop, implement, and manage plans and programs related to conservation and management of natural resources.
  • Assist in budget plans and forecasts.

 
 
Qualifications:
 

  • S. in Engineering, Mechanical, Civil, Industrial.
  • Master’s degree in Environmental preferred.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the E&P industry, federal authorities or independent consultants.
  • Proven experience in managing environmental permits and licenses.
  • Experience in Integrated Management Systems for Oil and Gas Industry.
  • More than 10 year of experience in the oil and gas industry (operations and HSEQ areas are mandatory.

 
Technical Skills:
 

  • Environmental Laws and regulations for Hydrocarbon sector
  • Execution of Environmental Impact Assessments
  • Knowledge of NORMs ISO 14001 / ISO 45001
  • Waste Management Knowledge
  • Experience with HSEQ Management Systems.
  • Sustainability concepts, GHG Emissions.
  • Project Management skills.
  • Excellent written communication and proficiency with technical reports.
  • Fluent English written and spoken.
