Sustainability Support Officer – Nairobi, Kenya

We are seeking to recruit a Sustainability Support Officer responsible for supporting our organizations sustainability initiatives. This role ensures compliance with company policies, industry standards, and local regulations while assisting in stakeholder engagement, data management, and administrative coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in implementing and tracking sustainability initiatives by collecting and organizing data, maintaining records, and supporting reporting processes.
  • Support stakeholder engagement activities, including scheduling meetings, preparing materials, and maintaining communication logs with key stakeholders such as communities, government agencies, and NGOs.
  • Prepare sustainability reports and presentations by compiling information, drafting summaries, and ensuring document accuracy.
  • Collaborate with local communities to identify and support development opportunities aligned with sustainability goals.
  • Assist in organizing sustainability-related events and training sessions, managing logistics, invitations, and follow-up communications.
  • Maintain and update databases related to sustainability projects, ensuring timely tracking of activities and outcomes.
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluating sustainability initiatives by collecting feedback, tracking progress, and preparing summaries for management review.
  • Conduct research and benchmarking on sustainability best practices to support project planning and continuous improvement.
  • Support social-human rights impact assessments and monitor related action plans.
  • Assist in monitoring the IFC Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) to ensure compliance.
  • Regularly monitor the grievance mechanism process to identify trends, ensure timely resolution of complaints, assess response adequacy, and recommend improvements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 4 years experience in sustainability, corporate social responsibility, community development, stakeholder engagement, or administrative coordination.
  • Proven experience in E&S risk assessments, IFC Performance Standards, regulatory compliance, and the oversight of Environmental & Social Action Plans (ESAPs).
  • Knowledge of ISO 26000, Social-Human Rights Impact Assessment, and GBV Assessment.
  • Experience in creating, implementing, and monitoring sustainability reporting procedures, standards, and guidelines.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively across diverse teams and cultures.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with experience working in dynamic environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
