Technical Superintendent – Mechanical

Salary : N15m – 25m Annual Gross
Location: PH, Nigeria
Job Type: Permanent

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Technical Superintendent is to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of vessels under their supervision. To oversee the technical aspects of vessel maintenance, repair, and performance, inspections and docking, ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards. This role requires strong technical knowledge, project management skills, and the ability to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The Technical Superintendent will work closely with shipyards, contractors, and internal stakeholders to plan, coordinate, and supervise dry docking projects.

  1. Vessel Maintenance and Repairs:
    • Develop and implement planned maintenance programs for vessels to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety regulations.
    • Coordinate and supervise all maintenance and repair activities, including dry-docking, engine overhauls, and equipment replacements.
    • Monitor vessel performance and address any technical issues or deficiencies promptly.
    • Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs and ensure compliance with classification society and flag state requirements.
  2. Budgeting and Cost Control:
    • Prepare and manage the technical department’s budget, ensuring effective utilization of resources and cost control.
    • Review and approve purchase requisitions for spare parts, equipment, and services, adhering to the allocated budget.
    • Evaluate suppliers and negotiate contracts to obtain competitive pricing and high-quality products or services.
  3. Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay updated with relevant maritime regulations, industry guidelines, and class society requirements.
    • Ensure vessels under supervision meet all statutory and regulatory compliance standards.
    • Collaborate with the safety and quality departments to develop and implement policies and procedures that promote safety and environmental stewardship.
  4. Crew Training and Performance:
    • Provide technical guidance and support to the vessel’s crew and ensure they receive appropriate training on equipment operation and maintenance.
    • Monitor and evaluate crew performance, identifying training needs and implementing corrective actions as required.
    • Promote a safety-conscious culture among the crew and encourage adherence to company policies and industry best practices.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of vessel maintenance, repairs, and equipment inventory.
    • Prepare technical reports, including dry-dock specifications, repair progress reports, and performance evaluations.
    • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including classification societies, flag states, and port authorities, to address technical documentation and certification requirements.
  6. Emergency Response:
    • Provide technical support and guidance during vessel emergencies, such as incidents, accidents, or machinery failures.
    • Participate in incident investigations, identify root causes, and recommend preventive measures to mitigate future risks.
  7. Vendor Management:
    • Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, contractors, and service providers to ensure prompt and reliable support for technical requirements.
    • Evaluate vendor performance, negotiate contracts, and monitor service level agreements to ensure optimal service delivery
  8. Vessel Dry Docking
    • Develop comprehensive dry-docking plans in collaboration with shipyards, considering vessel-specific requirements, maintenance history, and regulatory compliance.
    • Prepare the scope of work, including required repairs, equipment replacements, and inspections during dry docking.
    • Identify and procure necessary materials, spare parts, and specialized services for the dry docking project.
    • Ensure all necessary permits, documentation, and certifications are obtained prior to the dry docking.

Qualifications and Requirements

  1. Experience and knowledge of a wide range of Platform or offshore supply vessels, Dynamic positioning systems, logistic vessels, and Fast crew boats
  2. Previous experience as a Technical Superintendent, preferably. Also goo to have some experience in dry docking projects.
  3. Minimum of 5 years sea going experience as Chief Engineer
  4. HND/1st Degree in Marine/Mechanical Engineering. Master’s degree is highly desired.
  5. Class 1 Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency (STCW95)
  6. DP Maintenance Certificate
