Have you ever wondered what transformative changes will take place in the workforce environment of WTS Energy and the energy industry in 2024? Today, we are sitting down with Taiwo Adetunji, our Senior Global Operations Officer at the WTS Energy office in The Hague, to discuss the workforce environment in 2023 and to anticipate the changes expected in 2024 within WTS Energy and the industry.
Taiwo joined WTS Energy in 2022, and she recently earned a ‘Rising Star’ distinction for her exceptional work and dedication not only to her tasks but also to her colleagues and the numerous consultants we deploy worldwide.
Q1: Hey, Taiwo. I know many people already know you, but for those who don’t, can you just tell us who you are and what you do at WTS Energy?
I’m Taiwo, Senior Global Operations Officer at WTS Energy based in the Hague, Netherlands. My primary responsibility is to ensure operations matter are delivered as SPEC – smoothly, professionally, excellently and consciously.
Q2: Could you please tell us about the consultant-related aspects of your work? Has this year been any different than others?
The key aspect is establishing meaningful contact with each consultants and giving them the WTS Energy Experience which is the assurance that they can find us reliable. This year kicked off with potpourri of energy which is no surprise since most COVID measures were lifted and activities are back in place.
Q3: Do you have any funny or memorable stories from our consultants or from collaboration with them?
There are many to choose from, I always enjoy sharing in their pleasant surprise on receiving gifts or get-well-soon card. My fondest memories will always be the positive feedbacks from consultants attesting to our service delivery, proactiveness and general management.

Q4: What can you tell consultants to expect in 2024?
The most important goal for 2024 is strengthening contact and conversations with consultants in order to better understand them, and show them that they are the true GEMs of our company. Without their courage in taking on new projects and their dedication once they have undertaken these projects, I don’t think we would be anywhere close to where we are today, and in 2024, we would like to spend more effort than ever before to acknowledge that.
Q5: Gems? As in shiny stones?
Well, that is where we got the inspiration for the acronym, as gems are really valuable and hard to come by, plus they symbolize strength and endurance, both adjectives being characteristic of professionals in the energy industry. But for us, GEMs is an acronym meaning Globally Oriented Energy Master , and we use it to describe our consultants.
Q5: What is a New Year’s resolution for the Operations department in 2024?
Our focus in the coming year is on enhancing operational excellence, placing strong emphasis on communication with our Gems. Through increased frequency and effectiveness, we aim to foster a collaborative environment, encouraging open dialogue and seamless information flow. Additionally, we commit to introducing engaging activities promoting team bonding and contributing to a positive workplace culture.
Q6: What advice would you give to the consultants who want to get promoted in the next year?
Continuous learning is key! Explore our well-equipped training centers to serve today’s learning needs. Also we invite you to check our curriculum today via WTS Energy website. Feel free to reach out to us for information on any courses of interest. Above all, keep giving your best self!
Q7: From your perspective, what are the key trends that will shape the energy industry in 2024? Any influences to consultants in the energy industry?
Renewable energy stands out as an important sector to explore, in which we as a company actively seek ways to leverage on its opportunities. For example, we saw the great strides towards sustainable energy after the previous COPs. This year also hosted COP 28, in Dubai, where in spite of all the negotiation, a deal has been reached to “begin the end” of fossil fuels. This will also entail changes in the Global Energy Workforce, where it is likely that in the future, Renewable Energy know how and skills are likely to become more valuable. So, for the workforce of 2023, take 2024 to really look at your career possibilities and way forward into the future. We are confident that our consultants (GEMs) will definitely benefit from these efforts and by extension contribute to a better world, especially as we plan to support them in this transition too, by offering them the possibility to upskill themselves or learn new skills.
Our sincere thanks to Taiwo, the Senior Global Operations Officer at WTS Energy, Netherlands for sharing these insights with us. Since joining us, in 2022, she has consistently been the backbone of our contact with our GEMS, and we believe that if anyone knows anything about the energy workforce in 2023, she is surely one of them.
